  1. This Saturday's (March 5th) Lauderdale By the Sea Beach Cleanup event will have a National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) oceanographer and local resident Jim Hendee as it's guest speaker. Hendee, a 20+ year veteran oceanographer with NOAA, is an internationally recognized expert on Coral Reefs and will be giving a 5-10 minute speech at 9:00 AM on Saturday March 5th to help educate the volunteers about the importance of their work, and to thank them for their commitment to their community and the environment.

Hendee is the program manager for NOAA's Coral Health and Monitoring Program (CHAMP), which instituted the very first coral reef-related Web page, the world's largest list-server dedicated to
coral reef research (with over 5,000 subscribers), and the Coral Reef Early Warning System (CREWS). Jim was was also the founder of the NOAA "Reef Fest" and his brief biography
